Friday came to a close with a nice meal at Cafe Boheme, one of the few places in Tadoussac still open after 9pm. With a population of about 850 permanent residents plus a few whale-watching tourists, it's a fairly sleepy town!
Stuart got up early on Saturday to head down to the shore with his tripod and 150-500mm lens in the hope of seeing more whales. I opted for a bit of a lie-in and promised to sort out the packing. I was of course still tucked up in bed when he came back, oops! He'd found some minke whales and then saw a group of belugas near the opposite shore of the fjord. Even at full zoom they were tiny, so it was only afterwards, reviewing the photos, that he realised what he'd seen - a beluga whale calf! It's small and blurry but unmistakeably a beluga baby - sweet!
We packed as quick as we could, had breakfast and set off on the next stage of our trip. Before saying goodbye to Tadoussac we headed a little further down the river to the sand dunes. Another gorgeous view and a bunch more photos, then we headed down to the ferry and began the long drive to Montreal. We made it in about 6 hours from the Tadoussac ferry to the Holiday Inn Select in Montreal's Chinese Quarter, with just a couple of brief stops en route.
We found ourselves heading out for dinner quite late again, but in stark contrast to Friday night - Montreal is a bit more happening after dark! We headed for the old part of Montreal and the quayside, and found a great tapas place for dinner and cocktails. We could hardly get our head round the fact that we'd gone from one extreme to another in such a short space of time, so spent our meal reminiscing over everywhere we've been and what we've done so far. We've rather packed it in!
