Parc Omega

30th September

Seems like no sooner have we arrived in Tremblant, we have to leave again. A real shame as we'd have loved to see the place on a clear day. Ah well, it was not to be and the rain kept coming so we decided to hit the road after breakfast (blueberry pancakes, mmm) and try our luck at lower altitudes further south. Both the hotel receptionist and the lady at the activity centre had recommended Parc Omega, just before the Quebec/ Ontario border, so the perfect place to break our journey to Kingston.

We didn't really know what to expect but there was a promise of wildlife so it sounded good to me! It turned out to be a fantastic safari park with all the local Laurentian wildlife in their natural habitat, just a little more contained than usual. We had a great time driving round the park, feeding carrots to the animals (and being dribbled on by them). There were a lot of elk including several stags making a lot of noise - it seems to be the breeding season. There were some very cute and cheeky wild boars with their adorable stripey piglets, plus various other types of deer and a couple of herds of bison. Sadly we couldn't see any of the resident beavers, and I was surprised and disappointed that they didn't have any moose. Seems we are destined not to see any on this trip.

As well as all the herbivores, the region's predators were also represented; timber wolves and arctic wolves, and saving the best til last - black bears. Omega was a beautiful place and I loved watching the animals. Seriously I could have spent days there. We stayed til the park closed at 6pm and realised we had forgotten about lunch (just as well breakfast was quite large and late!)

We took a LOT of photos and I'm seriously cross with myself for not charging my batteries yesterday evening as I ran out of power before we got to the wolves and bears. Bother. Stu kept snapping but then we ran out of memory card space too! Luckily we made it round the park, so tomorrow morning our mission will be to find a camera shop. Two weeks in and we've filled almost 70GB between us already (though only 20GB of that is me - Stu's being very greedy).

We got back on the road again, crossing back into Ontario towards Kingston. It'll be another very late arrival without a proper meal, but totally worth it for the fab time we had at Parc Omega. Lovely day :)
